Technology Mission Statement
We believe that technology is an evolving tool for communication, research, applying and presenting knowledge. This tool will enable our students to adapt to new experiences and to approach problems with current and appropriate techniques in the broad range of their work and daily life. The balance of traditional curriculum and the wise use of technology-rich instruction will remain essential to our educational approach. Additionally, technology as a tool will foster successful communication within our community.
Technology Implementation
Technology is ever present in our lives in ways never imaginable in previous generations. Technology has changed the way we communicate, when we communicate, and with whom we communicate. Transmitting knowledge through interactive applications will be integral to the classroom. Technology controls many functions in our homes, workplaces, and transportation. Where would these endeavors be without technology: health care, entertainment, sports, research and knowledge creation, and education?

For our students working and living in the 21st century, innovation will be at the nexus of technology, art, design, and science. Students in technology classes are taught not only to develop and apply skills but also in the development of creative and innovative ideas and to demonstrate their learning in many subjects and school life. Classroom interactions using outside experts create a virtual field trip learning environment at WIS. Interactive lessons fully engage students in learning, increasing student participation and focus. The School infuses technology into the curriculum through computers and SMARTBoard technology, allowing hands-on experience with productivity skills vital for the 21st century. Additionally, our students in grades 4 to 8 use netbooks in their classes and at home for their school work. Knowledge of word processing, presentation software, ancillary hardware, such as printers, cameras, and data collection devices are part of a student's education at WIS.
For our faculty, SmartBoard technology is instrumental in delivering varied, quality instruction along with student skills in computers as age appropriate. Students in from first grade begin learning keyboard skills. Through the middle school years our students master advanced technology skills allowing them to research and present their work without hesitation. Moreover, they will understand and apply rules for safe and informed use of the Internet.
For our community, technology as a tool will underpin our strategies to bring us together: students, staff, and parents. School and student information will be available to parents through the Internet. Moreover, social networking applications foster additional community connections. Check out the WIS Facebook page.
We believe that our success as a school is only possible through a technology-infused education for our students who will be the leaders, innovators and global citizens in the 21st century.
