My Teaching Philosophy:
As a private piano instructor, I work with students from many different schools. My students are active in a variety of solo competitions, performance groups, and workshops. From these experiences as a teacher, and as a musician, I have learned that many music programs are designed to be more entertaining than educational. It is my goal at WIS to install a music program that not only allows children to experience and enjoy music, but also teaches them how to think and communicate about music.
Not every child will become a professional musician, but for those who will, WIS will provide them with a solid foundation to build upon. And for those whose destinies lie elsewhere, they will have the tools to be confident participating in the arts as a consumer, a patron, an amateur, a critic, or in any other way their hearts lead them.
A Few of my Favorite Things!
Food: Anything in the Asian category, especially Thai curry and sushi.
Books: Mostly non-fiction: biographies, essays, travel writing.
Music: Is this a trick question? I am a music teacher, you know…
Colors: I wear a lot of black, but my house looks like a Crayola test facility. Chartreuse! Saffron! Cobalt!
